Handmade wedding gifts from Egypt

A piece of Egypt, delivered to your door.

A wedding gift goes into a home that is being opened for the first time, and that is what makes it different from any other gift: the piece stays in that home for years, and it stays attached to the person who gave it. That is also why handmade work suits the occasion — the piece is not in every home, and most of it is made after the order, so it belongs to the wedding rather than to a purchase date. This page covers what is genuinely asked for at Egyptian weddings from handmade work, and the practical part with it: ready-made versus made to order, the price range of the pieces on show at this moment, and what happens when the gift goes to someone else's address.

What is actually given

Egyptian handmade work that goes to weddings falls, in practice, into four groups: • Table and kitchen — hand-thrown pottery and ceramics, serving sets, embroidered linen. This is the group given most often, because it is the one that gets used every day. • The home itself — candle holders, palm-leaf baskets, calligraphy and framed work, mirrors with a handmade frame. • Personal care — handmade soap, oils and candles, often given as part of the bride's preparations. • Something personal for the couple — a piece of jewellery, or an object carrying a name or a date. The fourth group is the one that becomes a genuinely personal gift, and it is also the one that needs more time and a clearer agreement. That is the next section.

Ready-made and made to order

This distinction is not a detail, because it changes two things: how long the piece takes, and whether it can be returned for a change of mind. A ready-made piece already exists at the maker's workshop and ships as it is. A made-to-order piece is produced after the order — a size, a colour, a name or a design set by that order. How long it takes is agreed in the conversation with the maker before the order is confirmed, not on this page, because it differs by piece and by maker. And because a made-to-order piece is produced for one order specifically, there is no right of withdrawal for a simple change of mind once production has started. That is set out in the published returns policy; this page points at it and does not restate it.

Prices

Handmade work is priced by material and by the hours it took, not by its size. A small piece with fine work can cost considerably more than a larger one. The price range shown with the pieces below is computed from those same pieces as they stand at this moment — not an average, not an estimate. When the catalogue changes, the range changes with it. One practical thing that shortens the search: settle a budget before looking, because the spread within any one group is wide.

When the gift goes to someone else's address

For a wedding gift this is the normal case: one person orders and a different person receives. The name, phone number and address on the order have to be those of the person who will actually receive it. That same person opens the parcel in front of the courier, and that same person pays at the door. So the gift arrives open for inspection before any money changes hands, and the amount is paid at that moment — which is something the person receiving it needs to be told before the order is confirmed, so that it is not a surprise at the door.

Things worth settling before you order

• An engraved name or date turns the piece into a made-to-order one, which changes both the production time and the right of withdrawal — both are covered above. • Colours in handmade work vary slightly from piece to piece. That is the nature of the material, not a fault in it. • Gift wrapping and a gift note differ from maker to maker, and each piece's own page states what that maker offers. • If the wedding is close, the timing is agreed in the conversation before the order is confirmed — no arrival date is written on the site.

In the catalogue right now

These are real pieces from the Crafida catalogue as it stands at this moment — each one has its own page and its own written price. When a piece sells, it leaves this list on its own.

You've reached the end of the results

The pieces shown above are between EGP 45 and EGP 1,000 right now.

The practical part

Payment

Cash on delivery. You open the parcel and check the item before you pay, and if the piece is not right you can refuse it at the door and nothing is paid.

Delivery

Shipping is a flat 100 EGP to every governorate of Egypt, and it is shown before the order is confirmed. There is no arrival date written here: that part is not fully in our hands, and promising it would be promising something we do not control.

The Crafida guarantee

Every maker here is hand-picked by us, and every piece is made by hand in Egypt. We are with you from the order to the doorstep.

What the Crafida guarantee covers

Returns and refunds

The returns and refunds rules are published in full on a single page, and that page is the only reference — there is no second copy of them anywhere else on the site.
